There are many reasons you might want to run a background check on someone. Perhaps you are an employer and want to be sure about who you are hiring. Parents who hire a nanny are well advised to run a background check as well. Anyone who is being entrusted with any responsibilities should have a background check done on them. This is especially true with those working around children or money. The following are a few areas that need to be looked at in order to get the most out of a background check.
Criminal Records
Although it is obvious that a comprehensive background check should include criminal records, it is not easy for the average person to do this. Crimes can be committed at the local, state and federal level. Accessing records that will uncover the information you require is something we do on a routine basis. To get the most out of a background check, you’ll want to make sure this is looked into thoroughly, as we can find records that include civil as well as criminal proceedings.
Financial Records
Running a credit check is important. There is a lot of information that can be gleaned from a person’s credit history, but there is further financial information that can be looked at to get a better understanding of a person’s background. Not everything in a person’s past will show up on their credit history. Often, a state or federal lien will not show as will any court judgments. Credit reports will only show what is reported to a credit bureau. We can uncover the rest for you.
Previous Employment
Of course, if you are looking into a person’s background because he or she is a potential hire for a job opening, there may be references to previous jobs and the contacts for previous supervisors. Sometimes there will even be a letter of recommendation. Everything may check out fine, but the truth may be different. Even when there is a problem with the applicant’s employment history, a previous employer may be reluctant to say anything negative out of fear of a lawsuit. We, on the other hand, can uncover problems in a discreet manner.
A Possible Alias
In order to find everything we can, possible aliases are also investigated. Without this, you may not get the full picture of the person. It is not uncommon for someone to have a clean record under the name they have provided, but with a careful search, it is discovered that they have another name they have gone by in the past. People will change their identity for many reasons, and they are not always sinister. However, there are many who will have a criminal past, and this is the reason they have changed their identity. We can find out if someone has used an alias in their past.
As you can see, the depth and extent of the background check is critical. If a surface level background check is done, it is quite possible that nothing will be found; therefore, a comprehensive background check is often a better choice. Although a comprehensive background check is something that is outside the skill set of the average person, we routinely do this type of service for our clients. Let us know what your specific situation is, and we can discuss with you how our services can help you.
