How Private Eyes Lead Personal Injury Investigations

Most personal injury investigations arise from auto accidents, other road traffic mishaps, accidents at home or products that prove faulty. If you suffer an injury due to the negligence of another party you could be entitled to compensation through a personal injury claim. However, you have to prove that someone else was at fault of negligence for your injury.
Hiring a Private Investigator to gather evidence removes a great deal of stress and hassle from your injury claim. PIs are not law-enforcement officials, their job is to collect information, not to arrest or prosecute wrongdoers. Please note, work related claims are separate from personal injury claims. They are referred to as “worker compensation” and do not go through the courts.

Steps to Lead the Investigation

Personal investigators are often hired by attorneys to help with a case. They help by finding evidence and clues that prove liability in a court of law. The investigation process involves four steps:

Fact Gathering:

A private investigator goes to the scene of the accident to get useful information from witnesses and bystanders. The private investigator carries out a forensic investigation to obtain all relevant facts that will help in understanding the accident. He interviews witnesses, takes pictures, searches buildings and keeps an eye out for clues that others may have ignored.

Fact Analysis:

Once a private investigator finishes collecting useful information he puts facts together to give a overall picture of the accident. He reconstructs the the accident and checks the consistency and believability against what he has already gathered.

Drawing Conclusions:

A private investigator prepares a report for his client with findings and analysis of the evidence. In the report a conclusion is drawn about the contributing and causation factors. The client uses the PI’s findings in the litigation process.

Counter Measures:

Besides finding proof of wrongdoing a private investigator may also give input on how the accident could have been prevented. This may help prove liability against defendant.
Private citizens, organizations and attorneys hire private investigators to help them gather facts to build their case. Learn more about private investigator’s resources and consider hiring a PI for your personal injury investigation today.
